Podcast Notes: Scott Galloway – Hard Work Doesn’t Build Wealth

  • Economic security is very important. You can have a great life in western countries if you have money. But if you don’t, your life will be hard.
  • It’s a good idea to give your children (10+ years) a stock account and some money that they can invest there.
  • “Unless you’re taking uncomfortable risks, nothing wonderful is ever going to happen to you.”
  • “You need to diversify like crazy.” Don’t go all in!
  • When you’re in your 20s, your benefit is time.
  • Use geographic advantage to use better economies and lower taxes.
  • Economic security is providing you with lots of benefits in your life: Great vacations, good healthcare, even great relationships because you can offer your partner a great life.
  • Life is not over when you’re 40. If you’re 40 you probably still have 60 years left instead of 80 when you’re 20.
  • When you’re young, it’s smart to live in the big cities to develop your career. Everyone there is smart and hungry. Once you have kids, you usually don’t want to live in a big city anymore.
  • Don’t have side hustles. Use side hustles to find new main hustles.
  • Relationship investing is key to wealth. “You want to be in a room of opportunity.”
